Four Mistakes Made by People Who Wear Contacts

If you've worn contact lenses for years, you might think that you know everything there is to know about them. However, many contact wearers make some major mistakes. Here we list four mistakes people make when wearing contacts that you'll want to change to protect your eyes.

You Wear Your Contacts for Longer than Recommended
Contact lenses are prescribed medical devices, and your optometrist should give you advice on how long you should wear them. However, about 85% of people admit to wearing their contacts for longer than recommended. Make sure that you are replacing your contacts frequently in order to avoid irritation and possible infection.

You Sleep with Your Contacts In
Wearing contact lenses will deprive your cornea of oxygen, and when you wear them to sleep, you are exacerbating the problem. At best, you could be causing discomfort and irritation, but at worst, you could be setting yourself up for a serious infection.

You Touch Your Lenses without Washing Your Hands
Hand washing is crucial in keeping both your eyes and your lenses healthy. Transferring germs and microbes from your fingers to your eyes can cause infections that could potentially damage your eyesight.

You Rinse Out Your Lens Case with Water
It is important that you are rinsing out your contact case with contact solution and not water. Each day, be sure to dump out the used solution and wipe it out.
